Dr James
Gutmann
A native of Wisconsin, Dr. James L. Gutmann received his
D.D.S. in 1970 from Marquette University School of Dentistry
and his Certificate of Advanced Specialty Training in Endodontics
from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1972.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and
taught full time for 27 years at three universities, retiring
as Professor of Endodontics, Texas A&M University System
Health Science Center, Baylor College of Dentistry, Dallas,
Texas.
Dr. Gutmann serves on the
Editorial Board of the Journal of the History of Dentistry,
and as an Associate Editor of the International Endodontic
Journal. He has authored or co-authored over 250 articles
in both dental journals and texts that address scientific,
research, educational, and clinical topics. He is the senior
author of an Endodontic text entitled "Problem Solving in Endodontics" published
in its fourth edition in 2006. He is also the senior co-author
of text entitled "Surgical Endodontics," published
in 1991 and reprinted in 1994 and 1999, and co-author of
the text entitled "The Clinician's Endodontic Handbook" published
in its second edition in 2005. He served as President of
the American Association of Endodontists from 2000-2001.
He was awarded honorary
PhD from the University of Athens, Athens, Greece for his
contributions to dentistry and endodontics and an honorary
Professorship at the School of Stomatology, Wuhan University,
Wuhan, China. He research interests have focused primarily
in the history of endodontics, surgical endodontics and root
canal obturation.

Applications of the ProTaper Universal
in Endodontics

Synopsis
The
new ProTaper Universal system is unique, efficacious and
safe in its applications for root canal treatment. This
presentation will address, in detail, the distinct advantages
of this system along with principles of application for
the challenges of root canal anatomy.
Workshop Requirements
-
All participants must
bring with them a minimum
of 3 extracted teeth with completed root formation
and with previously prepared proper access openings;
radiographs of the teeth should also be brought by
the participant; teeth with root curvatures greater
than 30-45 degrees do not provide good learning experiences
and their use is discouraged.

Third molars are not
acceptable.

Teeth with open apices or fractured root
tips are not acceptable.
All participants must bring to the course their
favorite selection of obturation instruments, e.g., spreaders,
pluggers, etc.
