1. Mandatory Administrative Procedures

In the first sememster

Students are required to attend a mandatory:

1) Safety Training for Graduate Students (arrange by Safety Officer)

2) To attend Library Orientation (arrange by Research Administrator with the Librarian)

Two weeks before
departure

Students are required to fulfill the pre-departure requirements:

1) Return DSO pass
2) Laboratory clearance
3) Provide contact details
4) Prepare to return ‘Log Sheet’ to Dean’s Office

2. Study Area at Dentistry Research Laboratories at DSO (Kent Ridge)

Access

Dentistry Research Laboratories is accessible by two cards :

  1. DSO security pass. It is not transferable.
  2. NUS Student Matriculation Card.
Computers Two computers with SPSS software are available for use on a
first-come-first served basis
Printer Access to printer is via password. Please get password from Mr Chan Swee Heng. Cost : 5 cents per page.
House-rules
  • Wearing lab coats and gloves are not allowed.
  • Only finger foods and drinks are allowed
  • Using of meeting room is subject to prior booking.

3. Research Laboratories at DSO (Kent Ridge)

Visit

Visitors to labs must be for only official purposes. Visits by family members and friends are strongly discouraged.

No visitors are permitted without the authorization of labs-in-charge

Visitors are not allowed to stay at the premises without the presence of sponsors.

Equipment

Do not use equipment belonging to other Principle Investigators without prior approval and proper training of equipment must be logged in the respective equipment record books.

All equipment is to be returned to their original state after use

Damage

Students will be held responsible for any damage caused by themselves.

House-rules

No eating or drinking is permitted in the labs.

Keep the labs clean and tidy at all times.

Please comply with all safety rules and regulations.

6. All Types of Leave Matter

Holiday Leave

The online holiday leave application is available at  ISIS https://myisis.nus.edu.sg. A research scholar is eligible for paid holiday leave of 21 working days per calendar year for the duration of the research scholarship. Depending on the start date and end date of the research scholarship, the leave entitlement for the year will be pro-rated accordingly. No vacation leave will be given during scholarship Extension period. Student may apply for leave of absence, during which no stipend will be given.

Leave of Absence (Unpaid)

Please submit applications via the Leave of Absence online system at ISIS https://myisis.nus.edu.sg.
    1. Leave of absence is inclusive of Sundays & public holidays.
    2. All holiday leave balance must be fully used before applying for leave of absence; unless the Faculty/ School decides otherwise.
    3. Maternity leave is considered as leave of absence due to personal reasons.
    4. Medical Insurance benefits are not applicable during the period when students are on LOA.

7. Conversion of Student Status from Full-Time to Part-time


Students can work full-time if they convert to part-time candidature.

To convert back to full-time, student will have to write in. There are no form for this purpose. Approval from supervisor and Vice-Dean (Research). Once must be obtained and Registrar's Office be informed

9. Transfer from One Faculty/School to another

To transfer, student will also have to write to the Faculty he/she wants to transfer to and also to get approval to transfer out from the Faculty he/she is currently in. The letter should be addressed to Vice-Dean (Research), through the supervisor/proposed supervisor.
