Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The course, consisting of lectures together with tutorials, clinical demonstrations, will be given during the third and fourth years. Syllabus: The principles of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Local anaesthesia; exodontia; impacted and unerupted teeth; surgery for denture prosthesis; treatment of oral infections, cysts, and tumours; maxillofacial injuries; lesions of the maxillary sinus and salivary glands; affections of the temporomandibular joint and muscles of mastication; surgical correction of jaw deformities.

Clinical requirements include attendances at the oral and maxillofacial surgery outpatients' clinic, assisting in the operation theatre, practice of exodontia under local and general anaesthesia. Clinical practice in exodontia under local and general anesthesia will extend over the third and fourth years. During the fourth year students will also undertake minor oral surgical operations and attend the oral and maxillofacial surgery outpatients' clinic.
