It was organized by the International Federation of Dental Education Associations (IFDEA) in association with DentEd Evolves Thematic Network Project and was supported by the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), Association for Dental Education in Europe(ADEE) and South East Asia Assocation for Dental Education (SEAADE). The host of this significant event was Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore with the President and Vice-chancellor, Professor Shih Choon Fong delivering the key-note lecture.

The 160 participants truly enjoyed themselves as the programme was packed academically and socially. There were plenary sessions by distinguished academicians and breakout sessions for small group discussion. Lots of ideas and suggestions were exchanged and proposed in these sessions which hopefully would propel the dental education into the forefront in this new millenium.

Socially, there was the welcoming dinner on the first night. And on the second night, it was a no-hold fun and gaiety as the delegates took to the mike and dance floor! It was truly a night to remember as the delegates came dressed up in the oriental dresses in line with the theme of that night which was Shanghainese night. Songs of yesteryears sung by a professional singer added to the nostalgic feel of the ambience that night.

As an added attraction to the delegates who came early, a trip to Lau Pat Sat (largest hawker center in Singapore) was planned informally on the eve of the conference. They were amazed by the wide array of the food available and satay turned out to be the hot favourite. Even pig organs were offered but some delegates were too queasy to try them!

The next morning, the delegates were taken for a tour to the Dental Faculty and on their way there, a short tour around the city was thrown in. The staff and students mixed freely with the delegates and ideas cum opinion were exchanged.

A lot of accolades and praises were heaped onto this successful conference. Here, the organizing committee especially chairman Associate Professor Teo Choo Soo and his team deserve a pat on their backs! Congratulations!
