Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme

Final year student Wong Mun Loke (from Dr Adrian Yap's group) recieving an award from DVC Shih

Our Faculty has integrated student project work and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme (UROP). Groups of four or five third year students are assigned a supervisor who will see them through a research project which will take a period of one and a half year to two years of work. This culminates in a research day presentation on Faculty Research Day (Dental Mirror issue No. 3 Apr98), where eight or nine groups of students will present their findings. The top two research projects will be submitted to regional conferences. From 1992 to 1998, the groups have consistently clinched prizes at the regional Asian Pacific Dental Students Association Congress. In addition, students are encouraged to send in their manuscripts to international refereed journals. From 1992 to date, eight publications from the results of project work have been published.

This year, two groups represented our Faculty in the APDSA congress in Taipei and the group under Dr Adrian Yap managed to walk away with the second prize.
