Curriculum Updates

Competency-Based Programme

The Faculty has converted the curriculum into full-scale competency based to replace the schedule of requirements for the Final Professional BDS Examination. This system allows students to progress at their competency level. Better students will move at a faster rate and can elect to observe or carry out more complex treatment procedures, while, other students requiring more support can be closely monitored.

Ethics and Legal Issues in Dentistry

Ethics and legal issues in dentistry play an important role in general practice. The course was restructured and introduced earlier in the BDS programme. The new programme was taught by Dr Catherine Tay, a lawyer, teaching in the Faculty of Business Administration. The first course recieved extremely positive feedback from students.

Problem-Based Learning

The 1st ASEAN conference on PBL in Health Sciences, jointly organised by the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry & CDTL is scheduled for 20-22 November 2000. The conference is recommended for administrators and teachers responsible for the education and training of health professionals in the region. The Faculty hopes to play an integral role in this area in the future.

As we grow in this area, the Faculty hopes to become a PBL resource centre for the region.
