September 11th - the day which is etched deeply into every living soul's mind. Changes were forced on those involved directly or indirectly. Life saved and lost became the daily routine in New York and now in Afghanistan as the world including Singapore joined hands in fighting terrorism. On home turf, most visible changes were the cancellation of international conferences, meetings and students' exchange programmes.
On a happier note, changes continued to be seen as NUS underwent organizational restructuring to realize its vision as a global knowledge enterprise. Even the Vice-Chancellor's title underwent changes whereby the title of Vice-Chancellor is officially re-designated as President and the joint title of Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost re-designated as Deputy President and Provost. This is in line with nomenclatures adopted by many in the global league of leading universities.
Something to be proud of was the commencement graduation ceremony of our newly convocated graduates recently. Prior to that, a grand campus celebration titled "Fiesta At The Ridge" was held. Much gaiety was in the air the graduates, proud parents, students, friends and staff celebrated the joyous occasion.
On the other end, the faculty welcomed the new students who trudged in readily to put in 4 years' of hard work to reach the other end of the rainbow. They started off with the right footing with a winning of 4 prizes for the dental float at the Rag and Flag Day demonstrating good teamwork and perseverance. Well done!
Another reason to be proud of our students was the recently concluded annual Dinner and Dance which was a resounding success ..the students' organizing committee deserves a pat on the back! Straying away from the traditional hotel venue to the trendy restaurant cum pub was quite a pleasant change and the theme "Masquerade" had everyone excitedly dressed up.
1st December 2001 marks another chapter in the history of the Faculty of Dentistry with the official opening of the Level 4 extension and the recently upgraded state-of-the-art pre-clinical laboratory. Interesting programmes are lined up with touring of the faculty as the finale. Hope to see everyone at this historical event!
