Prosthodontics

This course is taught over three years through didactic courses, laboratory techniques and management of clinical cases.

Students go through the technique courses in the second year and will proceed to treat patients only when they have satisfactorily completed the technique courses. Treatment of patients starts in the second year through to the fourth year. Clinical requirements of adequate standard must be completed before a candidate can sit the Final Professional Examination.

Syllabus: Prosthodontic technique - the use of dental materials and instruments for the construction of fixed and removable prostheses. Prosthodontics - Diagnosis and treatment planning for patients requiring prostheses. Clinical procedures and related techniques in the surveying and principles of removable partial denture design, construction of fixed and removable prostheses, restoration of endodontically treated teeth. Principles of aesthetics, phonetics, occlusion, occlusal orthotics and rehabilitation.

Examination: The examination will be known as Restorative Dentistry I and will comprise one three-hour paper, a clinical examination and such oral examination as the examiners shall determine.
