| Provost graces the 2003 Annual Awards Ceremony | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The annual awards ceremony of the Faculty was held at 5.30 pm on 22nd August 2003 at the level 4 auditorium. It was a proud and memorable day for many of the recipients. Provost Prof Chong Chi Tat was the guest of Honor. The program started with the address by the Dean A/P Keson Tan. He thanked all members of the Faculty for their resolve and spirit shown during the recent SARS outbreak. The faculty dug deep in the frontline battle and all worked hand in hand to do their part. Besides this, staff members of the faculty put up yet another year of excellent service to patients, students and the public. Two presentations were made by the students. One was the dentistry student project "People to People outreach "program to the people of Bintan Island. The students assisted in setting up the facilities for the Dental Clinic there. It was a very rewarding experience for all who took part. The second presentation was the winning UROP project on the" Hedgehog study." This presentation will be made at the coming September IADR SEA Div student competition section conducted by Dents ply Asia. Prof Chong Chi Tat presented the "Excellence in Teaching" awards to 2 staff members, A/P Adrian Yap and Dr Betty Mok. Staff Long Service Awards were also presented by Provost Chong to 12 staff from the Academic,IT Professional and Non Academic units of the Faculty. Performance and Merit awards were also presented to deserving staff. Besides these awards, the UROP winners and the Dental Society medals were also presented. On the academic side, The Vice-Dean (AA) A/P Grace Ong presented medals and book prizes to the 1st and 2nd Professional exam winners while the Dean A/P Keson Tan presented medals and book prizes for the 3rd and Final Professional exams in dentistry. In the Final BDS exams star student Dr Boey Pui Yunn created a record by winning the most number of medals (8) in her professional exam. Dean's list winners were also announced. The evening ended with tea, where
proud parents, staff, guests, supporters of faculty were seen intermingling
