The 10th Annual Dentistry Symposium was held on Sunday 29th May 2006 at the level 4 auditorium, NUH. Dean A/P Keson Tan gave the opening address at 9.00 am which kick started the event. As usual this year’s meeting had a mix of foreign and local speakers. He was pleasantly surprised with the number of attendants which exceeded 155 registrants comprising dental practitioners, students and nurses.

Three external examiners formed part of the panel of speakers. They included Prof J P Macdonald from Glasgow University UK; Prof Christian Lindqvist, Chair of Dept of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Helsinki University Central Hospital and Prof Derrick Setchell, Head of Conservative Dentistry and Program Director of M.Sc. in Conservative and Prosthodontics, Eastman Dental Institute, UK. Four local staff complimented the panel which included A/P Varawan Sae-Lim, Dr Neo Tee Khin, Dr Rashid Tahir and A/P S B Keng. The topics covered range from Endodontics and post space, Breathing difficulties in Children and Adults, Minimum Intervention in caries management, Bioresorbable Osteosynthesis, Removable Prosthodontics -trouble shooting and a lecture on “How long will it last ?- and why ?” (A longevity analysis of prosthesis and failure rate). The number of trade exhibitors exceeded the LOC’s expectations with 21 dental companies displaying their products and services over table spaces. As usual the atmosphere at the meeting was cordial with many of the participants taking the opportunity to meet up with old friends and colleagues. The food and tea breaks were another highlight of the meeting. Prof Chew Chong Lin, Director of the Division of Graduate Dental Studies gave away the mementoes to the speakers at the end of the afternoon session. The organizing committee comprising Clin A/P Patrick Tseng and committee, Drs Ong Hoe Boon, Aaron Tan, Lim Boon Kuan, Lim Tze Kheng and Ms Doris Wong should be commended for making all the preparations and helping to make this a successful event.
