"Dental Education - a Global Perspective "conference on 4th April 2002.

President and Vice Chancellor of NUS, Prof Shih Choon Fong opened the World Conference on Dental Education "A Global perspective "at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel on Thursday 4th April 2002. The opening ceremony was highlighted by a dance item followed by speeches from the Presidents of IFDEA (International Federation of Dental Education Associations, ADEA (American Dental Education Association, ADEE (Assoc of Dental Education in Europe) and SEAADE (South East Asia Assoc for Dental Education). The conference was a Dent ED Evolves Thematic Network Approach project. The conference was organized by the Faculty of Dentistry NUS as the local host with Organizing LOC Chairman Teo Choo Soo heading the committee.

It brought together dental educators from 31 countries truly making this an international and global meeting.

Prof Shih was the keynote speaker and the topic of his lecture was "Priorities in Dental Education". He lecture touched on the global enterprise and importance of education, innovation and international networking. Dean of Dentistry A/P Keson Tan was the responder in the opening symposia on the topic of "The virtual Potential in Dental Education". A lively discussion followed presentations also by speakers from Denmark, India and USA.

The 21/2 day conference promises to be a challenging one for Dental Educators in this part of the world and the foreign delegates.
