The opening ceremony literally started with a bang from Two CO2 cracker cannon with confetti showers followed by 7 guns of fireworks. Professor Shih Choon Fong officially opened the new extension building and facilities at the new 150 seat auditorium at the 4th level of the new extension. December, 1st, 2001 marks yet another milestone in the Faculties long history. Having moved over from the Sepoy lines campus to NUH in 1986 the new facilities will support the faculty mission "To be a leading dental intuition in teaching, research and clinical care". The opening ceremony included the official launch of the late Dr Charlie Lau Kieng Hiong memorial fund. Following the speech by the Guest of Honor Prof Shih, the Dean, A/P Keson Tan spoke of the many new facilities that have been included. Some of these include the new Preclinical simulation laboratory-with upgraded patient simulators, networked computer points, The DentSim Virtual Reality Simulation system and the state-of -the art AV facilities. A Clinical training unit room with high-end surgical microscope with IO camera and surgical microscope. These features are linked by AV connections to the Auditorium and Lab 2. Also on level 4 are the new CITA office and the Multimedia Development Lab, students lounge and a biomaterials laboratory. 2 new seminar rooms compliment the auditorium. The Opening ceremony ended with a student's performance on the flute and synthesizer by Aaron and Florence who played the famous "cannon pachebel" piece.
