The
New Faculty of Dentistry building at junction of
Medical Drive
and Lower Kent Ridge Road. (2010)
Recent developments within the health care sector
and the National University Health System (NUHS) required a reassessment
on the need for hospital’s expansion plans to create additional
space for specialized cardiovascular services. Coupled with the
upcoming opening of the MRT at Kent Ridge in 2010, the dental
faculty will be making a partial move to a new building to provide
additional space for its own use and also hospital’s moderate
expansion. This will be an interim measure before its own building
is to be built.
Part of the FOD teaching facilities will still remain at level
2 and level 4 of the current FOD building at NUH where the dental
teaching of undergraduates and postgraduate residents will continue
as at present.
The dental services of NUHS to the general public will continue
to remain at level 1 Dental Centre at NUH and level 2 will be upgraded
to provide additional dental facilities for patient care.

Located at the corner between Medical Drive and Lower Kent Ridge
Road, the new building will occupy the lot currently used as
NUS car-park 9 fronting existing medicine MD 9 and MD 10 block
and lecture theatre 29 and LT28.
The 3 storey building will occupy approximately 6195 sq m GFA
area and is designed as a double wing with a curved central area
connecting the inner and outer wing with a shape liked an “A” building.
The two wings are linked by a covered bridge at the 2nd and 3rd
levels. A 4th storey roof top on the outer wing will house an
open covered area for recreation and student lounge use. The
building will be simple and yet iconic in design. It is within
a short walking distance (6 minutes) from the main NUH building
and public transport available from two bus stops and the Kent
Ridge MRT station. Public access is easy to the new building
from the foyer located at the level 1 and car access from the
