Associate Professor Kelvin Foong
Associate Professor Kelvin Foong, a tenured Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore since 2003, received the Bachelor of Dental Surgery from NUS in 1988. He obtained advanced qualifications - the Master of Dental Surgery (Orthodontics) from The University of Adelaide in 1994 and a PhD from NUS in 2005. He was conferred the Best Performing Candidate Prize and Gold Medal for his sterling performance at the M Orth RCS Edin examination in 1996.
Associate Professor Foong has served as the Director of the Orthodontics Residency Training Programme since 2000. As a distinguished clinician-educator and scholar, he excels in clinical teaching with a focus on simulation to enhance clinical decision-making, treatment planning and procedural competence. He has received the prestigious NUS Outstanding Educator Award in 2018. Additionally, Associate Professor Foong is the Director of the Discipline of Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry at NUS and is a Senior Consultant at the National University Centre for Oral Health, Singapore. He has previously served as the Vice-Dean at NUS Dentistry in the portfolios of Research and Academic Affairs and as the NUCOHS Clinical Lead for Orthodontics till early 2023. Associate Professor Foong was awarded the Academic Medicine Development Award from the National University Health System and attended the Advanced Management Programme held at Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania. He has also held various leadership roles, such as President of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Southeast Asian (SEA) Division from 2009-2011 and as Vice-Chairman of the NUS Teaching Academy from 2018-2020. His service to the dental research community earned him the Distinguished Service Award from the IADR SEA Division.
Associate Programme Director
Dr Song Yi Lin
Dr Song Yi Lin graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Surgery. She was awarded the best student with distinction in Preventive Dentistry and Dental Public Health in her undergraduate cohort and received the Singapore Dental Association Medal. Under a scholarship from the National Dental Centre, she did her postgraduate residency and thereafter received her Masters of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics from NUS and also a Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. She is well trained with the use of conventional, aesthetic and self-ligating braces in addition to growth modification appliances which may be required in children with jaw growth discrepancies. She is a registered specialist in orthodontics with the Singapore Dental Council, and carries out orthodontic work on both children and adults.
With a keen interest in teaching, Dr Song has also completed a Masters in Clinical Education degree with the University of Edinburgh, is a member of the Academy of Medical Educators and a certified Team-based Learning Practitioner. She is also honoured to have been a winner of the SingHealth AMEI Golden Apple teaching awards. She is currently a Consultant at the National Dental Centre Singapore, the Associate Programme Director for the NUS Orthodontic Residency Programme, Director of Graduate Education for the Oral Health ACP at NDCS and also the chairperson of the College of Clinical Dentistry with SingHealth Academy.
