Programme Director


Associate Professor Alvin Yeo

Associate Professor Alvin Yeo is currently working as the Associate Professor and Senior Consultant at the National University of Singapore and National University Hospital Singapore respectively. He assumes the position of Director of the Postgraduate Residency Programme in the Department of Periodontics at the National University of Singapore. In addition, he is currently a member of the Dental Specialist Accreditation Board (DSAB) in Periodontics assigned to conduct exit assessments and recommendations for new Periodontist specialist accreditation. 

Associate Professor Yeo graduated in Periodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA in 2003 with a Certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science (MS) degree in Oral Biology. He received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from the NUS in 1997. He was conferred Fellow in the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS) in 2007. He was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Groningen, Netherlands after successfully defending his PhD thesis in March 2010.

Associate Professor Yeo sits on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Periodontology and the Journal of Implantologicum from the ITI. Furthermore, he is currently appointed as Key Opinion Leader (KOL) for Straumann Dental Implants, Geistlich Biomaterials and the ITI within the Asia-Pacific region. He lectures and conducts workshops actively both locally and internationally on topics related to Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.


Associate Programme Director

Clinical Associate Professor Marianne Ong

Dr Marianne Ong is a Senior Consultant Periodontist in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS). She obtained her BDS from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1991and her Certificate & Master of Science in Periodontics from the University of Michigan in 1997. She became the first local Singaporean to obtain the Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 1998. She currently is a Fellow in the Chapter of Dental Surgeons Academy of Medicine, Singapore and is a registered Dental Specialist in Periodontology with the Singapore Dental Council. Dr Ong is presently Director Education, NDCS; Academic Vice Chair Education of the SingHealth Duke-NUS Oral Health Academic Clinical Programme and Chair, SingHealth Academy College of Clinical Dentistry. With a teaching appointment under the NUS Clinical Faculty Scheme since 2001, Dr Ong is actively involved in postgraduate teaching in the Master of Dental Surgery (Periodontology) Residency Training Programme (MDS PRTP), Faculty of Dentistry, NUS. Currently a Clinical Associate Professor, she is involved in professional bodies and has given continuing professional education talks both locally and regionally. Her research interests are in clinical outcomes and quality of life in relation to non-surgical & surgical periodontal therapy.

Adjunct Associate Professor Chung Kong Mun

Dr Chung obtained his BDS from National University of Singapore in 1983 under a local merit bursary award from PSC, Singapore. After his National Service obligations as a dental officer, he left for Philadelphia, USA for his postgraduate training and obtained his Masters in Science and Certificate in Periodontics at Temple University in 1988. In 1993, Dr Chung was a visiting scientist at Eastman Dental Centre, U of Rochester under a HMDP fellowship, then in 1994 under the Seah Cheng Siang traveling research fellowship, he was a visiting research fellow at Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

Dr Chung has been involved teaching part time at NUS for more than 20 years.

Dr Chung left the public sector to become a partner in RCOLL in 1998. His clinical practice specialises in gum disease such as gingivitis, periodontitis, bad breathe, gum abscess, recession as well as dental implant and peri-implant disease.
