Introduction

 

Responsive imageOur Biostatistics Unit provides statistical support to researchers and students at the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore.

The Unit strives to enhance the quality, efficiency, and impact of the oral health research through collaborations with researchers and students on research projects in public health, clinical research, and basic sciences. Since its inception, the team has supported researchers and students with study design, protocol development, sample size calculation, statistical analysis plan, data analysis, interpretation, and scientific findings dissemination.

The Unit also seeks to enhance biostatistical understanding among the dental community by conducting training courses and consultations and developing user-friendly artificial intelligence summary statistics tool to help researchers present their findings for manuscripts or reports easily.

With the diverse analytic backgrounds and experience of the team members from the Unit, a wealth of different analytic methods can be applied to research data. This includes, but is not limited to, multivariate modelling, meta-analysis, machine learning, instrument validation, and programme evaluation.

Sim Yu Fan

Biography

Ms Sim Yu Fan is a biostatistician at the Faculty of Dentistry. She has more than 10 years of experience in academic and healthcare industry in Singapore. She received her BSc (Hons) in Biostatistics and MSc in Statistics from the National University of Singapore.

She primarily works with collaborators on planning, analysis and reporting of research studies. She contributes to statistical education and training in the Faculty as well. In addition to these, she has experience with executing nationwide survey.

Clement Lai Wei Ming

Biography

Mr Clement Lai Wei Ming joined the Faculty of Dentistry in 2019 as a biostatistician. He holds a BBA in Statistics from the National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan and a Master’s degree in Statistics form Lancaster University, United Kingdom.  He has experience in programming skills in R and Python, including data processing and visualisation as well as statistical analysis.
