The Faculty offers a four-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S) programme. It is a rigorous programme with comprehensive didactic and clinical components.
The Faculty of Dentistry was established in 1929 and remains the only dental school in Singapore.
Over the last 90 years, the Faculty has contributed significantly to dental education and trained many generations of dental surgeons, specialists as well as researchers.
The Faculty is currently located in the National University Centre for Oral Health, Singapore on the Kent Ridge Campus.
The BDS course offers several differentiating features which makes it unique and exciting:
Extensive hands-on experiential learning
A significant part of the curriculum is devoted to simulation training, laboratory work and performing a repertoire of dental treatment procedures.
Management and treatment of patients in the clinics
In Year 3 and 4, our undergraduates provide a wide range of dental treatment to patients across the lifespan under close staff supervision. Visit our S.M.I.L.E Clinics @ FOD for more information.
Small group learning
This allows the staff to work closely with the undergraduates and guide them in their learning and development.
Undergraduates of the BDS course are exposed to a variety of teaching, learning and assessment methods. Apart from the conventional methods of lectures and tutorials, the Faculty has invested in an increasing use of technology for teaching and learning. For instance, augmented and virtual reality is used to help students better appreciate clinical procedures in preparation for their training in the clinics.
