BIG WIN for Faculty of Dentistry at the International Association for Dental Research and South East Asia Association for Dental Education, August 10-13, 2017, Taipei, Taiwan

 

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

Associate Professor Kelvin Foong received the Distinguished Service Award from the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Southeast Asian Division at the recent IADR South East Asian (SEA) Division meeting.

Associate Professor Foong served in the IADR-SEA Division Council in various capacities as Secretary, Treasurer, and President-Elect prior to assuming the role of President of the IADR-SEA Division from 2009 to 2011.  The IADR SEA Division recognises his commitment to excellence in carrying out the administrative responsibilities and his leadership in the development of research capabilities of junior faculty and students from the developing countries in Southeast Asia.  Assoc Prof Foong participated and led research training programmes and secured substantial funding from the IADR Central Office for such training and development. 

 

HATTON AWARDS
Two PhD students from the Faculty of Dentistry, NUS won prestigious Hatton awards competition.

Dr. Preethi Prajod, a third year PhD student under supervision of Dr. Jaya Seneviratne (primary supervisor) and A/Prof. Wong Mun Loke (co-supervisor) received the first place in IADR Hatton Award competition for her work on “Salivary Proteomics Unravels Immune-Inflammatory Paradigm During Pregnancy And Postpartum Period”.  Congratulations Dr. Preethi!

Mr. Kassapa Ellepola, a final year PhD student under supervision of Dr. Jaya Seneviratne (primary supervisor) and A/Prof. Cao Tong received the second place in IADR Hatton Award for his work on “Streptococcus Mutans Gtfb Enhances Candida Albicans Cariogenic Potential In Mixed-Biofilms”.

 

Runner-up Award in IADR Joseph Lister Competition

Dr. Marcus Phoa, a recently graduated student from the Faculty of Dentistry, NUS, received runner-up Award in the IADR Joseph Lister competition for his work on “New Coating Method Prevents Enterococcus Faecalis Biofilms On Medical Devices”. His supervisors are Dr. Jaya Seneviratne and Dr. Linda Wu (Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology, A*STAR).  Other group members involved in the work are Dr. Soh Yu Jie, Dr. Ho Kee Wen and Dr. Heng Aik Chern Dennis.

Our recent graduates, Dr. Clara Goh, Dr. Haw Sue Yi, Dr. Ren Jiamin and Dr. Leong Jin Ni supervised by Dr. Fu Jia Hui were awarded 2nd Prize in the IADR-SEA Division/DENTSPLY SIRONA Student Clinician Program for their work on “Distribution Of Gingival Smile Types And The Difference In Perception Of Smile Aesthetics Between Dentists And Laypeople”.  

We have made one of the biggest achievements for Singapore in IADR SEA meetings!  Well done and Keep Shining!
