The NUS Faculty of Dentistry opened its doors to all Freshmen and their families during the UG Dean's Welcome on 28 and 29 September 2023. This special occasion not only introduced freshies and families to the incredible educational journey that awaits them but also gave the perfect opportunity for families to get acquainted with the academic environment and the people who will shape their loved ones' future.

The engagement began with the Dean of NUS Dentistry, Professor Chris Peck’s welcome address. Thereafter, the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs, Associate Professor Wong Mun Loke shared an overview of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery’s programme and introduced the dedicated educators who will guide the students through their learning journey at the Faculty. This allowed families to meet and greet mentors who would play a pivotal role in their children's academic development.
Attendees were treated to a tour of the modern teaching facilities showcasing NUS Dentistry’s commitment to providing the best possible learning environment for its students.

Mr Lionel Goh, a parent who attended the event, explained, “As parents, we have watched our daughter pursue her dream of becoming a dentistry student with unwavering determination, and today, at the Dean’s Welcome, we're not only proud of her but also grateful to the Faculty for taking the time to introduce the curriculum and facilities to us. This behind-the-scenes view provided us with a clearer understanding on what to expect in the next few years."
As part of the tour, attendees visited the Simulation Laboratory, where students will spend their first two preclinical years honing their skills and knowledge. Freshies and their families had the opportunity to witness the modern technology and equipment that will be at their disposal during their education.

At the clinics, attendees learned how students can gain hands-on experience during their third and final year by applying their dental knowledge in real-life scenarios. This engagement demystifies the journey ahead and shows the incredible hands-on learning opportunities NUS Dentistry offers its students.
Miss Ashley Tay, a first-year student, shared, “The UG Dean’s Welcome experience was eye-opening, especially as I explored the 8th floor clinics with my parents and marvelled at the thoughtful design of facilities. This assured me that resources are in place for my independent practice, filling me with excitement for holistic learning.”
