FACULTY SAFETY AND HEALTH POLICY
Objective
This policy is established to protect and promote the safety and health of all stakeholders of the Faculty of Dentistry including staff, students, patients, visitors, and contractors.
Scope
The scope of activities of the Faculty includes teaching, clinical services, research, office administration and any other activity which facilitates the smooth operations of the Faculty. This policy is therefore applicable to all staff, students, patients, visitors, and contractors engaged in these activities in the Faculty and facilities under its administration.
Policy Statements
The Faculty of Dentistry is committed to ensuring a high standard of safety and health in the Faculty and the prevention of injuries and ill health among all its stakeholders.
- Legal Compliance
The Faculty is committed to comply with all applicable safety and health legislations, guidelines, and standards that it subscribes to and any NUS policies that it adopts.
- Safety and Health Management System (SHMS)
The protection of the health and safety of staff, students, patients, visitors, and contractors shall be achieved through the implementation of a Safety and Health Management System and relevant programmes.
- Risk Assessment and Control
The Faculty will make all reasonable effort to provide a safe workplace for staff, students, patients, visitors and contractors by proactively identifying and correcting safety and health hazards through a risk management process.
- Training
The Faculty shall ensure that staff and students are adequately trained prior to the start of any new activity to ensure their competence in performing such activity safely in the workplace.
- Incident and Accident Investigation
All incidents and accidents are to be reported and investigated to determine the root cause(s) and implement the necessary corrective and preventive measures to avoid a recurrence. Staff and students are also encouraged to actively report any hazards so that an appropriate response can be mounted to address any concerns.
- Communication
This policy shall be communicated to all stakeholders of the Faculty.
- Continual Improvement
The Faculty shall strive to continuously improve its safety and health standards and practices. The Faculty Safety and Health Management System and related programmes shall be reviewed three-yearly to ensure their relevance and effectiveness.
