Advised by our very own Dr Nileshkumar Dubey, a team consisting of Karis Yuen Xin Er, Harini Manivannan, and Sean Lim, managed to bring home the Silver Award in the recent HealthTec-BES Design Challenge. As part of the Biomedical Engineering Society’s 15th Scientific Meeting, the HealthTec-BES Design Challenge was issued to junior college and polytechnic students to design a biomedical innovation that resolves a clinical pain point.

The team has gone on to obtain the Gold Award in the Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Chemistry category, as well as the grand prix for the best overall project at the Yakutia International Science Fair. The Fair is an international competition of research works from students all around the world and part of the Yakutia International Science Games (YISG) held under the patronage of UNESCO and the Northern Forum.

The team’s project investigated the possibility of using an eco-friendly nano-biomaterial alternative to culture dental pulp stem cells in three-dimensional space for dental tissue engineering.

“Congratulations Karis, Harini and Sean! Working together as a team to achieve a common goal has truly paid off. You all did an outstanding job!” shared Dr Dubey.
