Hear from

Our Graduates

I feel privileged to have completed the graduate diploma in dental implantology program at NUS. This well-structured, systematic, and evidence-based program helped me build a strong foundation in implant dentistry. The program's emphasis on evidence-based practice and hands-on clinical training equipped me with the skills and confidence to provide high-quality patient care. I am grateful for the invaluable experience and knowledge gained throughout the program. I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to all my teachers who have guided me throughout this program.

Dr Eng Seng YEOH

Class of 2024

Returning to a school environment after years of being in private practice was refreshing. We were there to learn as students yet could talk to our instructors and professors as peers and colleagues. There were instances when my seemingly silly questions ended up being fruitful and productive discussions.

Dr Kevin TAN

Class of 2022

Above all the knowledge gained, the biggest benefit would be the friendships forged and the opportunity to bond with our professors and teaching staff. Teaching is indeed a gift and a calling, and we continue to stand on the shoulders of those who have taught us.

Overview

Singapore is facing a rapidly ageing population. Oral health is an important part of the older adult’s overall health and wellbeing. It contributes towards effective chewing, healthy nutrition, speech, social confidence and better cognitive and functional capacity in the elderly. The burden of oral disease in old age is high. This is further complicated by co-existing chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, dementia and polypharmacy.

The Graduate Diploma in Geriatric Dentistry is specially designed for dental surgeons to receive additional training to deliver evidence-informed care to the elderly. Previously offered only as a two-year part-time programme for general dental practitioners looking to advance their skills, it now also includes a new full-time pathway for international applicants.

Why This Programme:

Upon completion of the Geriatric Dentistry programme, the graduate will deepen their understanding of the epidemiology and psychosocial factors affecting geriatric oral health, appreciate the impact of public health policy on oral care for older adults, and deliver holistic, patient-centered care. They will be skilled in diagnosing, creating treatment plans, and performing evidence-based procedures to address the oral health needs of older adults, while also advocating for improved public health outcomes.

Hear from

Our Graduates

Having volunteered at local nursing homes for many years, I am certainly privileged to be selected to enrol in the GDGD program which teaches the breadth of knowledge and skills in Geriatric Dentistry for me to bring back to benefit the older adults in the nursing home environment as well as my private practice. I am also honoured to learn side by side with fellow students in the GDGD cohort which span in age from 25 to 65, which augurs well for Singapore's push to encourage lifelong learning as well as healthy ageing. There is certainly no trace of ageism in GDGD !

Dr Kok Weng TANG

Class of 2023

The course provided key frameworks and clinical management principles to help me provide a better service to my geriatric dental patients. I found case discussion seminars very constructive as it gave us a platform to discuss our cases and receive input from the supervisors and fellow coursemates. The clinical sessions at the nursing home provided significant exposure to the many unmet dental needs of the residents and enabled me to realise that a good standard of care can still be provided no matter the environment.
