The South East Asia Association for Dental Education (SEAADE) organised its annual Scientific Conference from 7 to 9 November 2025. NUS Dentistry was honoured to be a part of this year’s conference.

Associate Professor Wong Mun Loke, Vice Dean (Education) of NUS Dentistry and Associate Provost (Integrated Education) in the Office of the Provost, as well as Dr Gabriel Lee,  Director of NUS Dentistry’s Graduate Diploma Geriatric Dentistry Residency Programme, together with fellow dental educators – Professor Krassanai Wangrangsimakul and Professor Waranuch Pitiphat from Thailand, Professor Wimardhani Yuniardini from Indonesia, and Associate Professor Jacob John from Malaysia – planned and ran a pre-Conference workshop on 7 November 2025 for over 30 participants to discuss Geriatric Dentistry competencies for undergraduates. This workshop, jointly organised by SEAADE and the ASEAN Geriatric Dentistry Network, brought together like-minded educators from the region to discuss key areas to focus on in nurturing the next generation of oral healthcare professionals to address the needs of older adults.  Through a series of interactive discussions, participants reignited their passion for Geriatric Dentistry and exchanged ideas to bring its teaching to greater heights.

During the main conference, Assoc Prof Wong was also invited to share his professional expertise at the dental forum on “Contemporary Dental Education and Innovation”. He presented NUS Dentistry’s Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme, highlighting ways in which the Faculty ensures that its graduates are poised to be future-ready dental professionals. This forum allowed participants from the region to gain insights into the different undergraduate dental education programmes in various countries as well as the opportunities to sharpen such programmes to ensure their relevance and currency in training oral healthcare professionals of tomorrow.

In light of the increasing use of AI across many settings including dental education, Associate Professor Kelvin Foong, Director of the Orthodontics Residency Training Programme and Research Lead (Education Research) at NUS Dentistry, delivered a lecture on “Transforming Dental Education with Generative Artificial Intelligence – An Imperative for Collective Action” to heighten fellow educators’ awareness of the emergence of generative AI and the opportunities to leverage it for dental education.

Assistant Professor Charlene Goh, Director of the Discipline of Primary Dental Care & Population Oral Health at NUS Dentistry, and Dr Lee also shared their experiences in dental education through a poster and oral presentation on “Teaching Evidence-Based Dentistry in an AI World” and “Exploring Dental Undergraduates Learning Experiences from a Special Care Dentistry Curriculum” respectively.  Their work contributed to a rich exchange of ideas among programme participants and audiences.

Our Faculty’s presence at SEAADE 2025 marks a commitment to transforming dental education locally and regionally.  We look forward to participating in SEAADE 2026, scheduled from 1 to 3 November 2026!
