NUS Dentistry continues to strengthen its academic ties with Universitas Airlangga’s Faculty of Dental Medicine through knowledge exchange and collaboration in dental education.

On 3 and 4 August 2026, Senior Lecturer Dr Lim Li Zhen was invited, together with Dr Andrew Nalley, Clinical Assistant Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology at the University of Hong Kong, to deliver lectures to faculty members and residents in the Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology Specialist Programme at Universitas Airlangga’s Faculty of Dental Medicine.

Dr Lim’s lecture, titled “Teaching Innovations in Oral Radiology at the Faculty of Dentistry”, highlighted a range of teaching innovations and digital resources developed at NUS to enhance learning in Oral Radiology. These included:

  • IRadiate2D — an interactive web-based resource designed to reinforce students’ learning in setting up intra-oral receptor holders and to visualise positioning
  • IRadiate3D — an augmented reality-based learning tool that enables students to practice intra-oral radiograph positioning without the use of ionising radiation
  • PanoAnatomy — an interactive resource designed to help students understand anatomical structures as visualised on panoramic radiographs
  • Oral Radiology chatbot — a generative AI-enabled learning resource developed to aid students in writing radiographic descriptions and improving their differential diagnoses

Through the session, Dr Lim shared NUS Dentistry’s experiences in incorporating innovative technologies into dental education while providing opportunities for discussion and exchange with faculty members and residents at Universitas Airlangga.

“I was privileged to be able to interact with the deanery, faculty, and residents at Universitas Airlangga and to share the Oral Radiology teaching resources that were developed at NUS. I’m greatly appreciative of the warmth and hospitality that they displayed and hope that this is the beginning of many potential future collaborations between NUS and Universitas Airlangga.” — Dr Lim Li Zhen

NUS Dentistry and Universitas Airlangga’s Faculty of Dental Medicine have a separately established partnership which was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in Singapore on 21 November 2023. The MOU marked an important milestone in the relationship between the two institutions, building on existing collaborations and establishing a framework for closer cooperation. At the time of the signing, both institutions highlighted opportunities to advance collaboration in dental education, research, healthcare, and community services, with an emphasis on knowledge exchange, innovation, and contributing to health and well-being in the region.

Dr Lim’s guest-lecturing engagement demonstrates how this relationship can facilitate academic exchange, with NUS Dentistry sharing its experiences and innovations in dental education with colleagues and residents in Indonesia.

As both institutions continue to augment their established relationship, such exchanges provide opportunities for further collaboration in education, research, and professional development, contributing to the advancement of dental education and oral healthcare in the region.
