Associate Professor Intekhab Islam, the Chairman of the Total Workplace Safety and Health (TWSH) Committee, explained the approach behind the achievement was the implementation of programmes such as safety training, behaviour-based safety, safety committees and engagement, and continuous improvement. He added that these initiatives were implemented by building a culture of open communication, cross-functional collaboration, and shared responsibility.

When asked about the future, Assoc Prof Intekhab shared, “Some of the committee’s future goals include continuous improvement in safety measures and practices. We aim to implement cutting-edge technology for even more proactive safety monitoring, expand wellness initiatives, strengthen community engagement, and further empower our staff, students and visitors in promoting a culture of safety and health.”

I am deeply honoured to accept the NUS Safety and Health Award on behalf of our team. Thanks to the unwavering determination of the TWSH Committee, which serves as a guiding compass, and the collective commitment of our community and partners, we are proud to have ensured the well-being of NUS Dentistry.

Mr David Lee, the Deputy Chairman of the TWSH Committee at NUS Dentistry, took the stage to share its journey in implementing its Health and Wellness (H&W) programme since 2021. Central to the Dentistry’s programme is a holistic and graduated framework that seeks staff input and organises relevant activities to address immediate H&W concerns. Additionally, Mr Lee recognised and thanked the support from the broader corporate resources and expertise within the larger NUS and NUHS network. Dentistry is one of the pioneer departments in NUS to have implemented a wide-ranging H&W programme, and the NUSSHA ceremony organiser requested it to share its experience at the event.
