Dr. Gopu Sriram clinched the Basic Science Research Award by International Association of Dental Research-South East Asia (IADR-SEA) 2020 for his talk titled ‘Applications of microfluidic organ-on-a-chip technologies in dental and craniofacial research’ presented at the IADR-SEA 2020 Annual Scientific meeting, Thailand.

Team of researchers led by Prof. Freddy Boey, NUS Deputy President (Innovation & Enterprise) along with co-inventors A/P Vinicius Rosa and Prof. Mandeep Singh Duggal from Faculty of Dentistry invented a portable tent-like shield to prevent the spread of saliva and aerosols generated during dental procedures. The tent termed Dental Droplet and Aerosol Reducing Tent (Dental DART) can be placed around the patient’s head to serve as a barrier to protect dentists, nurses and patients from direct and indirect exposure to infectious diseases such COVID-19.

Dr. Tan Bing Liang came in as 2nd Runner Up for the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD) Morita Award for his presentation titled ‘Utilizing Computer Simulation, 3-D Printed Teeth and Surgical Stent to Improve Premolar Autotransplantation Success in a Child with Hypodontia’ presented at IAPD 2021 Virtual Congress.

Undergraduate students Koh Wei Chun, Lee Jia Xi, Lee Jun Jie, and Lee Li Xuan from the Faculty of Dentistry were awarded the Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher (OUR) Prize 2020 for their work on the project titled “The Ideal Incisal Show at Rest – Difference in perceptions between dental professionals and laypeople” supervised by A/P Asher Lim and co-supervised by Dr. Yong Chee Weng.

Dr. Raymond Wong is appointed as Thrust Lead, Oral Health & Craniofacial 3D Printing Applications, NUS Centre for Additive Manufacturing (AM.NUS) for the period Oct 2020 to Sep 2022. The NUS Centre for Additive Manufacturing (AM.NUS) leverages the University’s world-class faculties, expertise and advanced capabilities in 3D printing technology. The Centre is supported by National Additive Manufacturing Cluster (NAMIC) and Singapore Economic Development Board.

Assoc. Prof. Vinicius Rosa has been elected as Vice-President of the International Association for Dental Research Dental Materials Group (IADR-DMG). His term will start in July/21 and will be raised the roles of President Elect and President in the subsequent years. IADR/DMG is one of the most traditional research groups since it was established in 1938 and the members have been responsible for most of the material developments and technologies used in clinical practice.
